Thomas Weber has been working in social services for 33 years, having started his career as a volunteer during the worst years of the AIDS epidemic and then being employed by Gay Men’s Health Crisis for 15 years, culminating in his leading the Buddy Program – volunteers who provided emotional and concrete support to people living with AIDS. From there, Tom went on to facilitate pioneering work at SAGE for 16 years, doing direct services with and educating about LGBT older adults, including presentations at various local and national conferences including the American Society on Aging (ASA). Tom currently works at JASA (Jewish Agency Serving the Aging) where he is the Associate Director of the Community Guardian Program. In this capacity, Tom oversees casework with individuals who are victims of elder abuse, as well as collaborates with lawyers and organizations doing elder justice work, like the Weinberg Center.
