Biography

Nas is a senior associate in Winston & Strawn’s Antitrust/Competition and Government Investigations, Enforcement, and Compliance practices. He primarily represents clients in antitrust matters, regulatory investigations (e.g., False Claims Act and Controlled Substances Act investigations), internal investigations, and other complex commercial litigation disputes. Nasir serves clients across industries, but he has a distinctive understanding of the healthcare and life sciences sector and the business of healthcare.

Nas litigates antitrust and other complex matters, including class actions, before state and federal courts nationwide and through all stages of the dispute, from pre-litigation analysis and counseling to motion practice and discovery, and to settlement negotiation and trial preparation. He is responsible for managing and developing the litigation strategy for multiple high-value disputes. Nas’s antitrust litigation experience spans cases brought under both Sherman Act sections 1 and 2, and Clayton Act section 7.

Additionally, Nas frequently represents clients in matters adverse to federal and state regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. His experience includes representing a national healthcare system in the False Claims Act and other civil regulatory investigations and working to resolve allegations of Controlled Substances Act violations against a major regional healthcare provider.  Nas was also the lead associate on multiple securities-related investigations before the Securities and Exchange Commission resulting in favorable outcomes for his clients.

Nas has worked on several significant and complex merger reviews both before U.S. regulators and globally, including managing foreign local counsel through the merger clearance process in several foreign jurisdictions for a multi-billion-dollar global acquisition.

Nas is also a trusted counselor to clients on antitrust risk and compliance as well as healthcare regulatory compliance, particularly with respect to the Controlled Substances Act.  Beyond counseling, Nas has provided compliance training to both legal and nonlegal employees and has assisted with the development and review of clients’ compliance policies and procedures.

Nas also maintains a substantial pro bono practice. Most recently, Nas helped secure a significant victory in a precedent-setting case involving the right to free exercise of religion within the U.S. Armed Forces. In another matter, Nas represented a survivor of human trafficking in her efforts to clear her criminal record, including in a contested evidentiary hearing, and obtained complete relief before courts in multiple jurisdictions. Nas was presented with the Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation’s Pro Bono Superstar of the Year Award in recognition of his achievements. Nas has also represented multiple clients in their applications for U nonimmigrant visas and counseled nonprofit organizations, conducting internal investigations related to allegations of financial and other wrongdoing by their board and employees.
