- Marc Denker
Marc Denker has been working in the field of disaster management for over 20 years. He began as a volunteer with the Red Cross (“RC”) of Greater New York’s Government Liaison Unit. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Marc was mobilized by the RC to work a government liaison position at New York City’s (“NYC”) Office of Emergency Management’s (“OEM”) temporary Emergency Operations Center (“EOC”), which was reestablished at the police academy in lower Manhattan after its primary facility was lost in the collapse of building 7 in the World Trade Center (“WTC”) complex.
Three days later Marc was pulled from his day job as a member of New York City’s Economic Development Corporations Intergovernmental Affair unit, and assigned by the President of the EDC to the NYC OEM as one of EDC’s official liaisons to work Rescue Recover at the newly established EOC located on Pier 92 on the West side of Manhattan. For four months Marc was responsible for coordinating the interdependent needs of the EDC, OEM, and the cities business community impacted by the disaster. Upon Marc’s successful completion of his assignment, the EDC created a position of Director of Business Continuity and Emergency Management for Marc and added it to his responsibilities.
He worked tirelessly with the OEM to keep businesses from leaving NYC and act as a liaison between the two offices where each role and specialty could be utilized to serve the city’s goals. Eventually Marc received an offer from another entity to focus solely on business resiliency where he is currently serving. During Marc’s time with the City and in his current position, he has received extensive training from various governmental entities remotely, in the classroom, and in the field. He is ProBoard Certified in BioChem Defensive Operations, and holds a Weapons of Mass Destruction (“WMD”) “train the trainer” and WMD instructor certification from two governmental training entities. Additional training provided by FEMA, the Department of Homeland Security, the Center for Domestic Preparedness, USAMRIiD, the World Health Organization, and others.
