Biography

Christopher J. Roman is an Associate with the firm and a member of the firm’s Taxation/Trusts and Estates Department. He handles a wide variety of tax-related matters for his clients, including estate planning, estate and trust administration, estate litigation and tax controversies for businesses, families, executives, entrepreneurs and other high net worth individuals. He achieves results for his clients with creative yet practical solutions that help to preserve and enhance their wealth.

Chris also works closely with the firm’s Family and Matrimonial Law departments in complex divorces involving sophisticated tax and financial matters. He has worked on the divorces of high-net worth individuals, including executives and officers of some of the largest companies in New Jersey, concentrating on their executive compensation, trusts for their benefit and ownership of interests in family businesses. Chris drafted the petition for certification and appellate brief for a 2013 Supreme Court of New Jersey case, J.B. v. W.B., which involved the use of a special needs trust in a matrimonial matter.

Chris earned his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame, his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, and his LL.M. in Taxation from the Villanova University School of Law. In 2013, Chris was named to the Rising Stars List of New Jersey Super Lawyers. He is an active writer and commentator on tax issues, having articles published in the Newark Star Ledger and the New Jersey Law Journal as well as updating his clients on developing tax issues through the firm’s Tax Law Blog. An article Chris authored during his LL.M. coursework, “Protecting Your Clients’ Assets from their Future Ex-Sons and Daughters-In-Law: The Impact of Evolving Trust Laws on Alimony Awards,” recently won first prize in the 2013 Mary Moers Wenig Student Writing Competition and will be published in a forthcoming edition of the ACTEC Law Journal.

Chris has lectured for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education, and currently serves as a board member for the Estate Planning Council of Northern New Jersey.
