Course Description

This course, taught by ethics expert Neil Wertlieb, discusses the comprehensive set of new Rules of Professional Conduct that were approved by the California Supreme Court in 2018. When these sixty-nine new Rules went into effect on November 1, 2018, they replaced the forty-six Rules of Professional Conduct that previously governed the conduct of attorneys in California. This program focuses on the Rules of general application to most attorneys.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the Rules that implemented controversial or important changes to the prior Rules
  2. Discuss the new ethical obligations imposed on California attorneys by the change
  3. Apply the new rules correctly to California practice and avoid ethical pitfalls
