Overview
Medical cannabis in Virginia is not brand new, but the past two years have brought major changes for doctors and patients who want to add cannabis to a treatment regimen. The list of possible ailments that may be treated with cannabis and cannabis products has exploded, and the potential for legal use to be criminalized is greatly reduced. With increased supply and access, this means expanded regulations and more entry points for attorneys into the cannabis law sphere. While cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, however, there are major potential pitfalls for attorneys working with cannabis clients.
In this program, taught by Kaitlyn O'Connor of Nixon Gwilt Law, attorneys will review the major changes to the Virginia medical cannabis scheme, assess business opportunities for cannabis clients, and avoid malpractice issues.
Learning Objectives:
- Assess the state of the Virginia medical cannabis market under the new regulations
- Avoid common pitfalls when working with cannabis clients
- Advise clients on the most updated rules and regulations for medical cannabis in Virginia
