This course covers the most historic and far-reaching change to landlord-tenant law in half a century. In April 2024, the New York State legislature passed the Good Cause Eviction Law. This law applies to hundreds of thousands of apartments in New York City and New York State.
Learning Objectives:
- Be able to advise landlord and tenant clients about the differences between Free Market Apartments, Rent Stabilization, and Good Cause Eviction
- Assert Good Cause Eviction Law defenses on behalf of tenants in Housing Court
- Defend against Good Cause Eviction Law defenses on behalf of landlords in Housing Court
- Conduct due diligence on tenancies with respect to Good Cause Eviction for potential real estate acquisitions
- Be able to calculate rent increases allowed under Good Cause Eviction
