Overview

This course will explore the ethical responsibilities for lawyers when representing clients who are transgender and gender non-conforming, as well as neurodiverse clients. This will include a review of different ways attorneys can respect and reflect the particular needs of these communities, so that (i) attorneys can better represent these clients and (ii) these clients can feel better represented.

This course will benefit attorneys who represent clients in these communities, and also those attorneys who represent other clients impacted by these issues – these may include corporate clients with DEI programs as well as individuals with family members in these communities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review ethical issues around representing individuals in the transgender, gender non-conforming, or neurodiverse communities

  2. Identify areas in your practice that may be negatively impactful to clients in these communities

  3. Learn ways to revise your client intake process to provide a positive experience for these clients from day one

  4. Recognize terms and phrases in your legal instruments, communications, and other documents that could be revised to better represent these clients
