Overview

This course provides a practical and in-depth examination of the ethical responsibilities attorneys face in their relationships with clients, from initial engagement to the conclusion of representation. Through analysis of key rules of professional conduct, including Rules 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.15, and 1.16, participants will gain the tools to navigate the most critical aspects of client interaction ethically and effectively.

Topics include protecting client confidentiality in all communications and case materials under Rule 1.6; drafting and managing fee agreements in compliance with Rules 1.4 and 1.5; handling client funds and ensuring proper billing and payment practices under Rule 1.15; and ethically terminating representation, including returning client files and unearned fees, under Rule 1.16(d).
