Overview
In this class the student will learn some higher level concepts in New York State Rent Stabilization Law. We will start the class by laying the groundwork on the basic things that landlords and tenants fight about in the realm of Rent Stabilization - illegal deregulation and rent overcharge. If you intend to work on a case involving Rent Stabilization coverage or overcharge, this is a class you cannot miss.
Learning Objectives:
- Litigate a case where the main issue is whether a High Rent Vacancy Deregulation took place
- Litigate a rent overcharge claim and identify when the damages look back rule is overcome by preferential rents, landlord fraud, or an unreliable rent
- Navigate the aspects of the Rent Stabilization law that are continuing to undergo changes
