Overview
Employee requests for reasonable accommodations - whether based on an employee's disability, religion, or other protected characteristics - are a frequent occurrence in most workplaces. This CLE program, taught by Kristina T. Grimshaw and Amanda M. Baker of Florentino & Grimshaw LLC is designed to offer practitioners a primer on how to manage requests for reasonable accommodations in New York.
The program will begin with an explanation of the various reasons for which an employee may require reasonable accommodation under New York and federal law. Next, Grimshaw and Baker will explore the multitude of ways an employee may request a reasonable accommodation or put an employer on notice that a reasonable accommodation may be needed, as well as the process for evaluating requests and effectuating accommodations. The training will also walk through some model scenarios to demonstrate how these issues may arise in the workplace.
Learning Objectives:
- Explore the protected characteristics which may require reasonable accommodations for employees
- Identify the types of employee requests and statements that constitute requests for accommodation
- Navigate the interactive process to determine whether to grant a request for a reasonable accommodation
