Overview

This ethics program is designed for new lawyers and will address the importance of understanding the Rules of Professional Conduct in all aspects of your practice. It is essential for lawyers to understand their ethical obligations in order to properly represent clients, maintain client funds in trust, manage conflicts of interest, and have a successful practice.

Rules 1.2, 1.5, and 1.15 address the responsibilities of lawyers for the scope of practice, client fees, and the safekeeping of client funds and property. The program also will review the importance of confidentiality under Rule 1.6, conflicts of interest under 1.7 and 1.9, and avoiding negligence under Rules 1.1, 1.3, and 1.4. These rules, along with others, will provide a solid framework for new lawyers to navigate the practice of law.
