Streams live on

Overview

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a federal employment statute that governs the majority of employment relationships, and it is the cornerstone from which all other employment discrimination statutes are built. It is the “floor”, the most basic level of protection, for employees in establishments of 15 or more employees.

Participants in this program will hear an introductory overview of Title VII from Marjorie Mesidor, a Partner with Phillips & Associates with vast experience representing employees, who will highlight the basic precepts of this important statute. This program is designed for attorneys who are new to the practice of employment discrimination law.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify protected employees, covered employers, and conduct prohibited by Title VII
  2. Articulate exhaustion of administrative remedies and the remedies available under the statute

  3. Learn the burdens of proof and common defenses
