Overview

Export and import laws affect many US businesses, yet many attorneys do not have a foundational understanding of the laws and regulations around the import and export of goods.

This program will enable lawyers to recognize the legal issues that clients may face regarding US export and import laws, provide a survey of those laws, explore the federal agencies and laws involved, as well as the enforcement actions that are possible, including detentions, sanctions, penalties, fines, seizures, forfeitures, and audits, and will discuss practical steps to enable attorneys to guide clients to avoid legal problems (best practices) when those legal problems arrive. Important attorney ethical considerations in this sphere will also be covered.

  2. Diagnose the legal exposure business clients face under US export and/or import law

  3. Identify templates and guides provided by federal enforcement authorities to assist clients
