Overview

Baby boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) comprise a huge portion of today's workforce and have earned their reputation and insights from decades of experience. Much of that time was spent catching up with the speed of technological change, social media, and LinkedIn in particular. It's often baffling for many boomers to talk about themselves after being raised, in broad generational terms, not to. Once giving themselves the permission to demonstrate why their accomplishments are meaningful in their LinkedIn career narrative, they still tend to shortchange and miss the narrative opportunities LinkedIn provides. The speaker, a boomer himself, has coached hundreds of professionals in this age bracket to employ best LinkedIn practices, with their specific generational needs in mind.

This session will address why boomer lawyers need to be active on LinkedIn, to explore  "why they do what they do" and ask others to comment "how well" they do their "why," for added emphasis. The goal: portray our best attributes and earned skills, so others will choose to engage with us vs. the competition. Time will be allocated at the end for Q&A.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Approach a LinkedIn profile with a plan to make the profile reader want to know more about you
  2. Analyze and draft each section to interweave your main points in different contexts, ethically of course, and to optimize being found in LinkedIn searches
  3. Break down the written words and add multimedia for breadth, to augment profile sections over time, schedule reviews to self-improve your profile
  4. Publishing a great personal profile, but also supplementing with weekly (or more) posts and frequent comments on others' posts, for recognition as a subject matter expert and thought leader
