Overview
This program will discuss the use of generative AI ("GAI") in the practice of law, and ethical requirements. We will examine practical applications of GAI across both litigation and transactional matters, including legal research, citation and memo drafting, document and testimony summarization, and real-time support during depositions and hearings. On the transactional side, the program will address how GAI can streamline due diligence, contract drafting, and related tasks. In addition to highlighting the benefits of efficiency, cost savings, and enhanced accuracy, the program will also analyze the legal and ethical obligations attorneys must observe when incorporating GAI into their practice.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the basic technical features of generative AI (GAI)
- Identify current and emerging use cases for GAI in law practice, both for law firms and clients
- Compare leading AI tools available to attorneys and explain how they can be effectively used
- Analyze the legal and ethical obligations governing the use of GAI, including FRCP 11 and 26 and ABA Model Rules 1.1, 2.1, 1.6, and 3.3
