Although often discussed as separate considerations, international trade matters and national security policy naturally intersect, sometimes in unexpected ways for trade law practitioners. This program, taught by Laura Fraedrich and Lindsay Nelson of Jones Day, will explore the various considerations that tie together international trade and national security policy, with a focus on economic sanctions and export control developments under the Trump Administration. The course will also review current policies and practices related to the review of foreign direct investment by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States and the Defense Security Service. Finally, the program will cover recent developments related to trade agreement negotiations.
