International LGBT Estate Planning

Overview

Same-sex marriage is now legal nationwide in the United States…but that recognition is not universal. LGBT individuals still have difficulties around the world. When a same-sex couple goes to visit a foreign country they might face political obstacles, immigration issues, and estate planning issues.

Even in the darkest corners of the Earth, there are people, governments, and organizations that shine the light for those who have to deal with these LGBT hostile countries.

This course presented by the Philly Gay Lawyer, Angela Giampolo, will explore these international issues and human progress and discuss ways to keep your loved ones or clients safe in a way that recognizes their freedom to love and plan an estate outside of the United States, even in those countries that criminalize homosexuality.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify immigration challenges caused by sexual orientation
  2. Understand that there are countries who are not LGBT friendly
  3. Know how to deal with estate planning involving those countries that are not LGBT friendly
  4. Generally know how to execute an international estate plan
