Overview

Franchising is a business concept regulated by the Federal Trade Commission. There is a misconception that opening up a second location means that you're franchising, but the regulations governing the ability to franchise are extensive, tedious, and require detailed attention.

This program will instruct you on the terminology, most important rules, and contents required in Franchise Disclosure Documents ("FDDs"), and the appropriate questions to ask while reviewing a franchise agreement ("FAs").

Learning Objectives:

  1. Use basic terminology and federal definitions common to franchise law

  2. Discuss why franchising is heavily regulated

  3. Identify the key aspects of Franchise Disclosure Documents that lead to dispute

  4. Examine the most important sections of a franchise agreement

  5. Review landmark case law directing franchise law
