Overview
There has been an exponential increase in the use of electronic prescribing, especially since the passage of the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) in 2003. Several states are contemplating making e-prescribing mandatory for all prescriptions. Although e-prescribing seems to provide many beneficial outcomes for healthcare, it also raises concerns regarding cybersecurity. In this course, Wilentz’s Angelo Cifaldi and Satish Poondi discuss these changes and address the federal and state regulations that apply to e-prescribing.
Learning Objectives:
I. Define key terms
II. Discuss the impact of e-prescriptions on medication error rates
III. Review state and federal regulations regarding e-prescribing and the filing of e-prescriptions for CDS
IV. Identify potential cybersecurity concerns relating to e-prescribing
