DWI in New York State Local Courts
1h 40m
Created on July 27, 2012
Overview
Join returning faculty member Steven C. Davidson, Esq. as he explains the process and procedures in Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) cases. Mr. Davidson begins with discussing the main NY state law for DWI and distinguishing the NY DWI law(s) and how they are not DUI laws (as in other states). Then, the program goes into some of the first steps an attorney should take with a client who has a DWI charge and what are some things that you should do to make the outcome most favorable for your client. Since trying to get your client a reduced charge is the best outcome, Mr. Davidson also goes over the best ways to do that and how important having all the right pieces of evidence in place is necessary to get that reduced charge. Furthermore, Mr. Davidson also discusses what a suspension-pending prosecution is and how to try and get your client's suspended license back by using a Pringle hearing and possible sentences that your client may be subject to. The course ends with a discussion on some oddball issues that may appear in DWI cases that a prudent attorney should be aware of and the important issue of paying the proper fees to the court in order to ensure that your client can properly and fully have his or her license back after a DWI charge or conviction.
