Document Preparation for Notarization

This course introduces document drafting basics, rules of construction, understanding the importance of knowing one's client through verification of identity documents, and how this emphasis fits into current notary law. Examples of essential clauses as well as layout dos and don'ts are provided along with resources, and guidance on how to tactfully introduce best practices to colleagues. 

Learning Objectives: 

1. Understand the difference between an affidavit and an agreement to determine which layout style and notarization type are required for each

2. Appreciate the basics of document construction to identify the essential clauses of an agreement

3. Discuss how notary public law influences the quality of the documents an attorney prepares and where to locate each state's jurat and acknowledgement

4. Understand what it means to "know your client" and appreciate the importance it has on limiting the risk of identity theft, and fraud, while also preparing a document that can be notarized
