Overview

This program, delivered by Gabriel Arkles of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund, will address the recent rash of anti-transgender legislation around the county. Many of the anti-transgender bills of the 2020 and 2021 legislative sessions focus on banning women and girls from playing women's sports if they are transgender. Attendees will learn about why opponents of LGBT equality and reproductive rights have recently shifted focus to women's athletics, as well as about the federal constitutional and statutory issues currently being litigated in cases about these laws.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the latest developments in anti-transgender sports legislation

  2. Discuss privacy, equal protection, and Title IX arguments concerning the constitutionality of anti-transgender sports legislation

  3. Advise transgender and cisgender students and their parents about the effect of anti-transgender sports legislation
