Overview
In this program, Jack Paris provides an overview of the different aspects of maritime jurisdiction. The course familiarizes attorneys with the historic issues involving ocean territorial claims and boundaries, and discusses the evolution of jurisdictional principles, focusing primarily on the zones and areas that have been defined and are generally accepted today.
The program progresses to address current questions relating to the Death on the High Seas Act (DOHSA). Mr. Paris analyzes the current maritime jurisdictional issues facing countries and corporations dealing with modern pirates, such as those patrolling the Somali coast. The program concludes with a discussion of trending maritime jurisdictional issues that confront private practice attorneys in this field.
