CROWN (Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) Act New York - Solution to Hair Texture Discrimination - provides an overview of federal, state, and local laws related to hair texture discrimination in the workplace and schools.
This continuing legal education (CLE) seminar examines the CROWN Act, which has been enacted in 20 states including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and California, among others. Employment law attorneys (representing plaintiff and defense clients in employment discrimination lawsuits), human resource managers, educational administrators, judges, and law students will learn more about the CROWN Act New York.
Additionally, attendees will gain helpful strategies for creating dress and grooming codes in the workplace and schools.
Learning Objectives:
- Review elimination of bias and anti-discrimination laws in the workplace and schools, and federal, state, and local laws related to hair texture discrimination in the workplace and schools such as Title VII, Title IX, and the 14th Amendment
- Explain the CROWN Act and identify the 20 states where the CROWN Act has been enacted
- Discuss the jurisdiction distinctions of the CROWN Act New York
- Review federal CROWN Act pending legislation in the United States Congress
- Analyze dress and grooming codes in the workplace and schools
- Identify best practices and tips for allies
