This program, presented by personal injury attorney Annette Clark, will provide a comprehensive overview of the client intake and ethical challenges that California attorneys face in personal injury cases. This court will begin with a review of ethical “do’s and don’ts” regarding client solicitation.

Other topics to be covered include vetting the plaintiff or defendant, setting fee agreements, avoiding conflicts of interest, and ethically navigating the settlement process.

Annette's practice encompasses many areas including insurance coverage, general liability, premises liability, personal injury, employment, business, bad faith, class action litigation and declaratory relief actions. Annette has tried cases to jury verdict, including a 27-day jury trial in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. She also has experience with bench trials and arbitrations.

In the employment context, Annette has defended clients in various class actions, including wage and hour and misclassification cases. She has also defend clients against FLSA sanctions and individual employee suits involving wage and hour claims, whistleblower/retaliation claims, misclassification, sexual harassment, gender and race discrimination, among others. 

Annette's class action experience includes representation in the areas of consumer law, healthcare law, and employment law including wage/hour disputes, misclassification, and FLSA actions. 

Annette has extensive experience handling personal injury cases, including catastrophic injuries and fatalities.  Because of her expertise, Annette was one of six San Diego attorneys asked to be a panel member for a continuing education seminar in January 2016 presented by Sterling Education: "Personal Injury Law: From Start to Finish."  Annette presented material on Ethical issues faced by personal injury attorneys.

In addition to litigation, Annette handles a wide variety of insurance coverage matters including offering coverage opinions and advice to both insurance carriers and institutional clients, and handling uninsured motorist arbitrations.  She has obtained benefits for clients and also defended clients under a variety of different insurance policies including Employment Practices Liability, Commercial General Liability and Directors and Officers.

Before switching careers to become an attorney, Annette worked for 14 years in insurance management where she gained extensive experience and knowledge in the areas of insurance coverage, general insurance industry practices, an insurer’s duties to its insureds, claims handling, California's Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations and California’s Unfair Insurance Practices Laws
