Successfully Taking a New Product to Market: Financing, Legal Issues, Branding & Sales

Aired on

Intermediate

Overview

Many lawyers and clients think that getting a product to market ends with the development of a great idea, protecting the intellectual property, and delivering a prototype. That part, although not easy, is in fact just the beginning of a process, and with some exceptions, is generally never done alone. With very few exceptions, there is an entire network of manufacturers and distributors, and perhaps franchisees and resellers and licenses, involved in getting any kind of product financed and into the hands of consumers or end users. With each layer of supply chain assistance, the issues and risks escalate.

This CLE, presented by attorney Aaron Polak, will explore the legal issues confronting the rollout of most any product, from bread to microchips or medical devices to automobiles.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Examine the rights and responsibilities of providers who have the rights to help develop and manufacture your client’s product, and the risks and benefits of granting those rights
  2. Review how to properly draft manufacturing, supply, distribution and reseller agreements
  3. Grasp the risk of a one-size-fits-all approach and understand why a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work when structuring and drafting various licensing agreements for your clients
