Overview
Airlines, including both passenger and cargo providers, committed to a significant reduction in the use of non-renewable fuels by 2030. The Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) industry shows promise but remains in its infancy. The transition to SAF and other green energy solutions poses a challenge to airlines, corporate flight departments, and airports. Advanced Urban Mobility and the electrification of both the consumer and rental car fleet present unique issues for Fixed Based Operations (FBOs) and airports. Contractual agreements with energy providers create a unique issue for airports. The ongoing attempts to eliminate lead from aviation gas (Avgas or non-jet fuel) remains a conundrum. This course explores the current transitional environment of the foregoing and aviation sustainability in general.
Illustrate the current aviation sustainability regulatory and practical landscape
Identify key issues in the adoption of sustainable fuels
Discuss current FAA policy that encourages or inhibits the implementation of sustainable efforts
Analyze electrification issues, including demand and grid connection
