As with many areas of environmental law, a number of ongoing developments are impacting the reach of the Clean Water Act, including the Environmental Protection Agency’s revised definition of “waters of the United States,” litigation over discharges into groundwater, and litigation about when jurisdictional determinations may be challenged. This program will cover both historical and recent interpretations and developments, and predictions for the near future.
Learning Objectives:
Doug Hastings focuses his practice on environmental litigation and regulatory issues. Doug represents clients in matters arising under a variety of federal and state environmental statutes, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). He has been particularly involved in appellate litigation and administrative advocacy related to the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program.
After dozens of Lawline credits, this is the best presenter I ever had. He is clear, gutted over the basics but can still dive deep. He has a good framework and road signs and speaks clearly so people can follow him. Have him do more.

Excellent presentation of evolving area of environmental law.
great slides and cases
I have an Environmental Certificate from a top Enviro Law School, and litigated CWA Citizen Suits for 12 years, so I can say with certainty that Mr. Hastings knows this area well. He does an excellent job of explaining a highly complex topic. For me it was a good “refresher” on some areas of the CWA that were outside the scope of my practice. Highly recommend as a primer for those interested in clean water issues.
excellent update
This atty had a breadth of knowledge and command of the topic, and was engaging the entire way through. I really appreciated his energy and the awareness of recent changes in law, as well as use of visual aids. Please have him again
