SCOTUS Cases Impacting Labor & Employment Law

Aired on

Intermediate

Overview

Several decisions that came out of the Supreme Court of the United States (“SCOTUS”) last term have significantly altered the landscape of labor and employment law, including decisions on the use of arbitration agreements for wage and hour class and collective actions (Epic Systems Corp.), mandatory union dues for public-sector employees (Janus) and discrimination against same-sex couples based on sincerely-held religious beliefs (Masterpiece Cakeshop).

This course, presented by Bryan L. Arbeit, Senior Associate at Wigdor LLP, will provide employment lawyers and inside counsel with an in-depth review of these recent SCOTUS decisions as well as a discussion of the labor and employment issues to be decided by SCOTUS during the 2018-19 term.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize the primary labor and employment cases decided by SCOTUS during the 2017-18 term
  2. Examine the underlying constitutional and statutory issues presented in these cases
  3. Analyze the impact that these recent rulings will have on the workforce and on employment law
  4. Discuss the labor and employment issues that will be decided by SCOTUS during the 2018-19 term
