Litigation involving expert real estate valuation can be daunting for the uninitiated. The methods of appraisal and the principles behind them can be difficult to parse.  

This course offers a practical guide for those litigating real estate valuation matters. Viewers will receive practical instruction on how and why appraisers do what they do and how to best prepare for direct examination and cross-examination. 


Learning Objectives: 
  1. Become familiar with the method by which real estate is appraised, including the three methods of valuation - comparable sales, income capitalization, and cost
  2. Understand what issues to watch out for when preparing your direct case
  3. Learn how to cross-examine real estate appraisers in the courtroom

Jonathan Houghton is a partner at Goldstein Rikon Rikon & Houghton, PC, practicing in the areas of eminent domain and condemnation law. He received his J.D. in 1998 from Boston University and his B.A. in 1995 from the University of Pennsylvania.
