Overview
The remarkable popularity of generative AI (GenAI) is spawning a growing list of high-stakes legal battles between developers and copyright owners. On one side are developers that need to feed their large language models (LLMs) massive amounts of data, most of which is subject to copyright. On the other side are copyright owners who claim that the LLMs are infringing on their rights. This course details the range of issues affecting the development and use of GenAI, its effect on copyright law, and the relevant litigation, and concludes with an overview of selected best practices for minimizing the associated risks for all parties involved.
