Overview

This course will explore retail liquor licensing while also providing a broader, focused overview of the state's liquor licensing process with specific regard to buying or selling a business, helping clients identify the specific liquor license required for their business and the steps necessary to obtain it, working with the NYS Liquor Authority to gain the necessary approvals, and the difficulties that commonly arise during this process. The program will cover the procedural aspects and also a review of the documents necessary to complete the transaction. First, the program will discuss the various classes of licenses and identifying the requirements of each license class, then segue into the steps required in obtaining a license and summarizing the application process. The course will equip attorneys with the most crucial information necessary for advising entrepreneurs in the hospitality industry who seek to obtain a liquor license.

The presenter, Michael James, is the founder of The James Firm, a boutique practice focused on corporate law, alcoholic beverage licensing, and real estate for early stage and existing businesses, structuring, negotiating and closing a range of commercial and capital market deals, and advising clients on a variety of issues, including obtaining and maintaining a retail alcoholic beverage license.
