Overview

This program, presented by veteran and former Veterans Affairs (VA) attorney Tom Kniffen, will explore how to file a claim for veterans compensation benefits with the VA. It will provide an overview of the basic legal concepts that pertain to obtaining disability compensation benefits, and address how to handle that claim throughout the entire application process. Mr. Kniffen will also discuss the basic requirements attorneys must comply with in order to represent veterans before the VA. The primary focus of this program will be VA disability compensation benefits, though VA healthcare benefits and pension benefits will also be discussed.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Examine how to file claims for veterans benefits with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and how to handle those claims throughout the duration of the application process
  2. Discuss the basic legal concepts that pertain to obtaining disability compensation benefits from Veterans Affairs
  3. Identify the requirements for attorneys to represent veterans before Veterans Affairs and the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims
