Overview

It seems like technological changes are occurring at a breakneck pace. While all attorneys are governed by the Rules of Professional Conduct, attorneys now face significant challenges in complying with the ethics rules which require them to stay current with technology. While many attorneys are having a hard enough time keeping up with their clients and case load, they now have the added responsibility of being competent with technology. Attorneys need to be able to integrate appropriate tech tools into their practice making sure they do not violate any of their ethical responsibilities.

In this program, attorney Joseph Bambara will discuss the latest developments in technology that are affecting the way attorneys practice law, keep their client information safe and interact with clients, witnesses, adversaries and the courts. We will focus on privacy, cloud computing, cybersecurity, big data, cryptocurrency and the blockchain as well as the resulting case law and legislation. Don't be left behind, and above all, don't let technological changes cost you your career.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the latest developments in technology that are affecting the practice of law
  2. Examine how these developments impact the ethical obligation of attorneys to safeguard client information and communicate with them effectively
