Lawline, Longest-Running Legal TV Show in U.S., Tapped By PBS for Satellite Distribution to Colleges and Universities

NYC, -- PBS, the private non-profit media enterprise, and Lawline, the longest-running legal television show in the United States, have entered into an agreement whereby PBS will distribute Lawline's popular legal talk-show programs through its Adult Learning Service (ALS).

Beginning this September, the Lawline shows will be available to educational institutions, libraries and adult learning centers nationwide via satellite. Over 500,000 students each year earn college credits through ALS. Now they can benefit from Lawline's rich legal content which showcases lively and educational interviews with prominent lawyers and judges on topics such as: How to Negotiate in Your Everyday Life, Crime on the Internet, How to Insure Your Business, Medical Malpractice, and The Employee Strikes Back.

"This affiliation with PBS will enable us to bring timely and topical legal issues to a national public and to lawyers in training," said Alan Schnurman, the popular host and founder of Lawline. The talk show already reaches 4 million households in the greater New York City area where it is a much-watched show among members of the legal community. Judges have told Schnurman that they plan their Sundays around it.

Lawline was founded in 1983 by Alan Schurman, known to his peers as the 21st century entrepreneur of the legal profession. Schnurman earned the nickname "Larry King of Law" for making the show lively with his natural enthusiastic and inquisitive personality. Based on the success of the TV show, Schnurman started Lawline.com, an award-winning online broadcaster of law-related media programming. He plans to make Lawline.com the top webcaster of law-related media programming and the largest law-related web site in the world. Lawline.com is the main supplier of Yahoo's Legal Broadcasting Channel and was one of the first web sites to be accredited to offer CLE courses in New York State as well as in other states.

A division of the Public Broadcasting Service, the PBS Adult Learning Service was created more than twenty years ago to fill a very important need: to provide distance learning for students who would have no time to attend college otherwise. PBS and its member stations pioneered distance learning and today are the world's largest source of video-based, college credit courses. A trusted community resource, PBS uses the power of non-commercial television, the Internet, and other media to enrich the lives of all Americans through quality programs and education services that inform, inspire, and delight.
