Bio:

Charles Burnham’s practice focuses on criminal defense in state and federal court.  Mr. Burnham has experience in a variety of complex criminal matters including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the Foreign Agent Registration Act, the Controlled Substances Act, Fraud, and Conspiracy cases.  In 2010, Mr. Burnham handled the defense of an accused Russian agent in a case which resulted in the largest spy swap since the end of the Cold War.

Mr. Burnham also has significant appellate experience, having handled cases before the Virginia Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of Virginia, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prior to joining Burnham & Gorokhov, PLLC, Mr. Burnham served for two years as an Assistant Public Defender for the County of Arlington and the City of Falls Church, defending indigent persons accused of crimes.  As a public defender, Mr. Burnham handled hundreds of cases in a variety of areas including violent crimes, sex offenses, juvenile offenses, and traffic matters. 

Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Burnham served as judicial clerk to the Honorable Jane Marum Roush of the Fairfax County Circuit Court, the largest jurisdiction in the Commonwealth.

Mr. Burnham has lectured on Virginia practice at George Mason University School of Law and as a Virginia Continuing Legal Education Instructor.
