Virginia Fair Housing Law: Landlord-Tenant Issues
About this Program
Fair housing laws prohibit discriminatory practices in residential housing and apply to a wide variety of activities and parties. As such, it is important that landlords, property owners, and leasing agents have a comprehensive understanding of how these laws might impact any potential housing transactions. In this Virginia-specific course, attorney Robert J. Duffett shares his vast knowledge of landlord-tenant practices and applicable laws in this detailed presentation on fair housing issues relating to residential rental transactions in Virginia. Mr. Duffett begins with a brief introduction to the Federal Fair Housing Act of 1968, and then provides a thorough examination of the Virginia Fair Housing Law and the Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act. With a focus on discrimination based on race, sex, religion, age, disability, and an additional protected class specific to Virginians, Mr. Duffett sheds light on a number of unlawful housing practices, including discriminatory advertising and the refusal to make a dwelling unit available. Concluding with a review of occupancy limits and fair housing issues involved in the rental application process, Mr. Duffett provides viewers with everything they need to know about fair housing laws and the landlord-tenant relationship in Virginia.

Great! The slides shown with the very engaging lecture has made it one of the best CLE on-line courses I have attended!
excellent speaker and course materials. exceeds quality of other courses.
Great job! Pertinent issues addressed.
One of the more engaging online CLE programs I've seen. Informative and practical substance, nice relaxed spoken presentation plus very effective synchronized graphics. Creative use of photos to illustrate concepts being discussed is simple but well done. A refreshing change from overused boring Powerpoint text bullets. Nice to see a presenter make an effort to take advantage of VIDEO CLE as a true audio-VISUAL medium rather than the usual... spoken audio with an image of talking heads in a suit next to slides of text in a box. Substance is what it's all about, of course. This is an excellent concise practical primer on Fair Housing Law, but I particularly appreciate the presenter's efforts to avoid just plowing through the subject matter. By consistently keeping the examples AND GRAPHICS interesting and effectively illustrative of the concepts discussed, this CLE course stands out from most other video courses. I also appreciate the well-written materials that supplement the course, as distinguished from some other courses that just provide the synchronized powerpoint text slides as an outline. For all these reasons, I can honestly say I appreciated and enjoyed this video CLE course more than most others.
I loved the slides. They kept me interested.
Very interesting - great examples.
As a tenant myself, I found this course particularly useful and interesting. I will be much more attuned to the issues and the subtle ways in which landlords and tenants should engage on these issues. The real world examples, and the way in which they relate to current issues such as the new forms of discrimination post 9-11, was of particular interest today.
Great presentation and substantive information.
not my area of practice, but good concise presentation and very easy to follow
