Liability for Spectator Injuries: Is It Fair or Is It Foul?
About this Program
Take me out to the ball game . . . but please bring me back in one piece! Experienced attorneys Gil Fried and Carla Varriale provide a comprehensive run-down on the legal ins and outs of America’s most revered sports, the dangers they pose to those who revere them, and the forms of recourse, or lack thereof, that are available to the injured spectator. Drawing from preexisting case law, real-world examples, and personal experience, Fried and Varriale establish clear delineations between scenarios in which sports facilities or third parties are liable for injuries and scenarios in which the spectators themselves are at fault. They skillfully navigate such slippery slopes as assumption of risk and limited duty rule, and with a spirited note of divergence address the two competing ideologies of ensuring maximum security and acknowledging a fan’s desires to get up close, personal, and all too often at risk. Carla and Gil also address issues of alcohol consumption at sports facilities, and the degree to which facilities can be held accountable.

I liked the interaction between the lead presenter and the two other participants. Also liked the narrative written materials.
The presenters and the host very personable, the host asked good questions to draw out the presenters, and the presenters imparted information clearly & concisely.
helpful for my practice (horse law)
It was wonderful to review an area of law that most of us know so little about.
The format and the subject matter of the seminar were engaging.
Informative in an obscure area.
Having the written materials side by side with the video (as opposed to in a downloadable file) is preferable.
It was surprisingly interesting to me.
Interesting topic - engaging presentation
I found the subject area very interesting, and thought it was a good thing to have two people with such differing viewpoints.
I liked the interaction and multiple speakers on the topic.
Really enjoyed all of the anecdotes.
Very interesting, an area of law I knew little about, but I'm a big fan!!
Interesting, I learned a lot about a subject that although I have never had this type of case, it helped clarify/refresh my knowledge.
Learned the fundamentals of an entirely new area of law for me.
Very good overall.
Informative presentation by engaging faculty.
Really enjoyed this one as a sports fan
Excellent presentation. Great to hear from an atty from the defense bar.
The two speakers complemented one another well.Since I'm a sports fan, the subject matter was especially interesting.
Interesting and well-presented.
I loved the topic and the three person panel is wonderful. I wish they were all this way.
very thorough analysis
Overall, I think you have selected excellent speakers for these presentations.
Interesting approach with two speakers who had differing views.
interesting and unusual topic
very interesting topic
Excellent lively interaction between the expert speakers in this "field" of law.
Very interesting, even just from a fan's perspective.
I found this course extremely interesting - great job!
I enjoy the interview format.
Very interesting and well-presented.
Like to hear about other sports, e.g., golf, running;
Both were very good and very knowledgeable. Carla had an excellent demeanor for the camera, and is probably very good in court.
I've always wondered about this topic, so it was nice to have a presentation on it.
I really like the format of this seminar, how it was done in an almost talk show format with a couple experts and a moderator. You received differing opinions to shed more light on the issues at hand. I suggest more seminars be produced this way. Far more engaging than the standard lecture format.
I enjoyed this seminar and liked learning about a topic I knew little about from a legal perspective. The "debate" format between Gil and Carla was entertaining and an effective way to address both the plaintiffs' and defendants' sides of the issues.
Loved the dialogue format.Great session
I loved it. It had great speakers and it made the course very interesting. There should be more courses with the interaction between the speakers. It really adds to the course.
Interesting and excellent discussion.
Excellent!! Very interesting and thorough presentation.
Very enjoyable. Liked the "panel" format with two lawyers presenting opposing views in many instances.
Very enjoyable, easy to follow, and certainly an interesting discussion on an intriguing area of the law--for the avid sports fan lawyer or mildly caring fan...and the panel format was robust, friendly, down-to-earth, and genuinely interactive. Lawline would be wise to create a lot more courses with this more informal, relaxful (yet meaningful) dialogue approach! Great work!
Loved it. Very interesting!
interesting subject matter; great speakers.
Extremely entertaining and informative...great presentation!
Very informative and entertaining.
Great Course! Very interesting and great speakers.
Enjoyed the difference in speaker opinions.
Until engaging in this program today, I hadn't thought of team/venue liability for sports spectator injury as a practice specialty. This is a very interesting program.
One of the best lawline courses! Love the format!
Very interesting. I learned quite a bit.
I was very surprised at the overall quality of this program. This is definitely one of the best CLE programs. The presenters' breadth of knowledge was exceptional. Certainly worth the time and cost! As a GP who has expanded into PI this will favorably enhance the direction of my practice.
Liked that the speakers did not always agree with one another.
Materials/notes/outlines are really very good! thank you.
great speakers; relevant, practical and real life examples
very well done, great ovwerview, yet great depth n analysis
interesting topic for the sports enthusiast
Good program. H.
specific but very useful
Though differing on many opinions, both speakers were excellent, worked well together and presented a balanced view of the current legal landscape, interjecting interesting case and study experience when appropriate.
