How to Run a Small Office Ethically and Profitably
About this Program
In response to the wave of recent layoffs, many attorneys are branching off and establishing independent practices. Attorney George Brunelle discusses making ethics and profitability interdependent in a practice. Following the Code of Ethics enables attorneys to work effectively, keep clients happy, and avoid the financial losses that inevitably result from ethical troubles. He also examines the manner in which the profitability and quality of one's practice is tied closely to the cases and clients that one turns down. Brunelle concludes by reviewing the ethical pitfalls surrounding a client’s financial situation.
I. Interdependent Ethics and Profitability
II. Ethical client intake and rejections
III. Client financial situations and warning signs
IV. Conflicts checks and Ethics Rules 1.7-1.10 and 1.13
V. Differing Fee Arrangements
VI. Getting Competent in the Law
VII. Ethical Office Matters
- This course is available in Georgia for 1.00 credits of professionalism.
The written materials were a very good addendum and should be read in conjunction with the discussion. Many checklists, if followed, can avoid a lot of trouble down the line
Very useful information!
I would recommend this course to new attorneys.
If you practice in New York this course is very helpful. If you practice in any other State you will need additional information.
George Brunelle obviously knows the subject and does a very nice job of explaining it.
Speaker gave very good insights about conflict of interest and fee determination.
Good overview of office management and avoidance of future ethically issues
This was a fantastic course, full of practical advice for attorneys who sometimes let their desire to help a client get in the way of good common sense. Very well done.

This is the first online CLE course that I've taken. Overall, well done. I look forward to earning additional CLE credits online. Very convenient, in terms of being able to choose a time to review the course that fits into my schedule. Thank you Lawline!
It's pretty general, but has some interesting thoughts on why you should reject clients.
Having been burned a few times, I know enough to know that he is 100% correct in this lecture!!
I really liked the Question & Answer format that this program was presented. It's much more engaging than listening to a straight lecture.
