Ethics: Deception in Undercover Investigations
About this Program
In this ethics course, Barry Temkin, Esq. discusses current problems in ethics as they relate to misrepresentation, deception and dishonesty. With scandals at the government level being made public over the past years, there have been updates to the ethics laws as well as court decisions governing what lawyers can and cannot do. I really liked the substance, and the balance and variety in real life examples.
Outstanding! I thoroughly enjoyed and was intrigued by his thoughtful and encompassing review and analysis of a hightly controversial and developing area of legal ethics. Bring him back for regular updates! Super!
Excellent coverage for a subject which is non-uniformed. Speaker did cover the basics and as always, indicated to the listerner...if in doubt, look it up!
ENJOYED THE PRESENTATION.
Great overview on an area of the law I didn't know much about.
Great course. Very interesting.
The speaker raises some interesting points that many attorneys may not have considered and shows the need for clarification by the state and federal bars.

very engaging speaker, thorough presentation
The content of this lecture was quite interesting and very informative.
Very interesting subject matter for an ethics CLE.
As an attorney who has worked nearly his entire career as a plain clothes special agent, I found this presentation very useful.
Good Ethics presentation.
Clearly presented, structured and organized. Interesting and relevant cases presented.
Very good overall.
very interesting CLE. Good topic
Very informative. Explained varying rules well.
I learned a lot of things I did not know. I had no idea the law was so strict on using deception to do undercover investigations. Thanks

Found this course concise and easy to follow.

This was the best presentation on the ethics field that I have watched on Lawline to date. Mr. Temkin gave vivid examples of attorney conduct and misconduct through the use of both actual cases and interesting hypotheticals. Please use Mr. Temkin for other courses on the ethics field.
Interesting but very complex area. Good overview to the issues.
The best ethics presentation I've viewed, read or heard.
thank you for this presentation
He is a very good presenter and it was a very interesting topic.
Very interesting topic and stories.
Excellent presentation on a very tricky subject for criminal defense attorneys. Very valuable indeed.
i liked it
I found this interesting, as well a good program on ethical issues
These issues are relevant to a large number of civil and criminal cases, but most attorneys are not fully versed in them or choose not to raise them with the court. This was a very helpful presentation.
Interesting topic and great speaker.
Very authoritative. Great examples! Thank you.
Very informative and important to know.
Great speaker -- fascinating issues!
Very interesting subject matter. I never knew people worried so much about this area.

Interesting and well organized lecture.
Difficult issues presented in a clear way. Interesting topic.
Great overview of the topic by a very knowledgeable speaker
I found the course to be very helpful describing real life, recent ethical issues that an attorney can easily face every day. It noted clearly the fact that there is wide differences in how this matter is viewed.
Strong broad overview of the rules.
interesting on Greylord
Interesting and well presented
The material was somewhat boring, but the speaker tried to make it interesting.
these issues are quiote familiar to me as a result of pre-retirement federal government position; an active, significant and pressing issue
Very interesting and thorough presentation on a topic that most lawyers probably never think about.
Excellent… fast-paced and amazingly absorbing discussion of this decidedly thorny ethics question.
excellent! and the written materials are very helpful. I hope to see more by this attorney.
Haven't seen this topic in an Ethics CLE before-- very interesting. Thanks for showing a new issue and for a good presentation!
Mr. Temkin is a very engaging speaker. His presentation showed just how confusing the laws in the various states are.
Interesting course. Good material.
Very, very interesting -- and, as an aside, demonstrates how rigid application of ethics rules arguably produces a societally undesirable result.
Nice job. Interesting topic.
I enjoyed it.
Very interesting subject matter, well-handled.
Provides some very surprising insights
Very interesting topic.
Too much time spent on the law of other states, particularly FL and OR.
Initially, I was looking for some quick, last-minute ethics credits for my state bar. I found the subject matter in this seminar very applicable to my own practice in dealing with 1811s and their criminal investigations.
Good use of examples.
Interesting presentation and good review of variations among different states.
The presenter obviously did his homework in preparation for this interesting CLE course. Congratulations to Mr. Temkin
The best so far.
Thank you for easy to use online interface. Thanks to the faculty for clear presentation and adherence to his own outline. Well planned. Well executed.
good job by speaker
Flows well. I would like an editorial burst of opinion from Mr. Temkin. It seems that the "lying is lying" rationale of some courts is preposterously static. Has the U.S. Supreme Court weighed in over the years? Did the Greylord case go up? It seems that only Florida has been thoughtful about the issue.
Thanks for the great content. The reason we have so much deception in investigations in Chicago, such as Greylord, is that there is so much deception in Chicago. Or, that's what they tell us anyway. Thanks, well done indeed.
Well thought out, clearly presented, interesting case examples, interesting discussion of how state laws have addressed it and the conflicting interests (such as civil rights community needing to have undercover activities supervised by a lawyer for good public cause). The speaker had very easy to follow speaking style, and seemed to have a great experience level from which to draw.
Mr. Temkin is an excellent speaker.
Nicely presented overview of relevant ethical issues involving lawyer deception.
Mr. Temkin clearly presents the issues of this subject.
Barry, GREAT JOB....!
The speaker did a great job of blending the course material to real-world scenarios and actual cases. A lot of material was covered succinctly but also thoroughly. I could have easily watched speaker for another hour or two!
The speaker was very entertaining and knowledgable.
This by far has been the best CLE course that I have heard by Lawline to date.
quite informative, brings up some significant questions with government activities
This course was outstanding. He really made his points in a concise, effective way. This is such a grey area and he spelled out the Courts view, which is ever-changing.
Dry topic made interesting. Thanks
The speaker was excellent. I hope that he will be used in more CLE programs.
Appreciate the case references.
Very good info.
Very interesting and useful presentation.
Written materials track lecture perfectly.
Barry did a nice job with this topic. Interesting substantive material. Good use of caselaw, hypos. Engaging. Nice job.
very informative lecture
Excellent presentation of a subject matter rarely addressed
Very interesting presentation. Brought up ethics issues I had not considered.
Excellent summary of the relevant case law on undercover work from law enforcement to litigation in civil cases, followed by a useful cap in the two hypotheticals involving the OSHA violations.
Creative. Liked the John Lennon example. Made it interesting.
It was very interesting and informative.
This was a really helpful and informative presentation. Thanks!
I took this for sheer enjoyment of a novel topic and actually found it pretty interesting.
Very informative and interesting presentation.
excellent presentation - good examples given
well organized, examples were very good, well done
Informative presentation and eye opening analysis.
This was a surprisingly compelling program. The choice and sequencing of topics were excellent; Temkin gave a clear and quite helpful tour through a set of controversial ethical problems. The range of examples -- from undercover corruption investigations to civil infringement -- were particularly well chosen. Best online CLE I've seen this year or last.
The instruction gave good examples.
Very good and informative presentation.
Good coverage of an interesting and varied field
Excellent lecturer. A worthwhile CLE.
I really enjoyed this seminar.
Very helpful information
a good overview of the ethical issues related to undercover investigations.
Very interesting subject
I'm not sure that I will use this in my practice (which is primarily civil litigation), but the course was interesting!
Very difficult topic but the professor was very good.
good new information on the subject matter, lively speaker, even though a very narrow topic.
Mr. Temkin is a very good speaker and makes a clear presentation about the state of law in this area.
Interesting topic. engaged speaker.
Very thorough materials. Good contrast between the jurisdictions
Interesting issue, quite nuanced. Its complexity was dissected very well.
Not something that I thought would be that applicable to my practice, but actually turned out it might be. Interesting.
