About this Program

Immigration practitioners are often confronted with issues involving matrimonial matters that involve multiple clients such as a husband and a wife, an entire family or an employee and employer and as a result there are ethical issues special to their practice area. For instance, the DOJ and Department of Homeland Security have issued Ethical Rules applicable only to immigration attorneys. In this program, attorney Stuart Reich will discuss the many challenges that can arise when foreign nationals apply for green cards based on spousal citizenship and he reviews what both citizen and noncitizen parties need to be aware of before, during and even after these marriages. Attorneys Thomas Mason and Lisa Barclay discuss the ethical issues commonly encountered by immigration attorneys, and explain how to handle ethical issues such as representation of multiple clients, false statements and the proper handling of fixed fees. This course will provide immigration attorneys with a solid understanding of ethical issues pertaining to immigration law and the nationalization process of foreign national spouses.
