Considerations in Selecting an Appropriate Legal Entity for a Social Enterprise
| Faculty: | Emily Chan, Gene Takagi |
| Production Date: | January 24 2012 |
Description
There's lots of buzz these days about business ventures for social good. Charities and social entrepreneurs are becoming increasingly interested in these ventures to address growing social problems in an environment of decreasing charitable funds. But there’s much confusion about these social enterprises, which range from divisions of traditional business corporations to non-profit earned income activities. In this program, join attorneys Gene Takagi and Emily Chan to discuss the differences among several forms of social enterprises, including the new “hybrid” entities: the low-profit limited liability company (L3C), the benefit corporation, and the flexible purpose corporation. They also explore the legal and tax considerations of starting and operating a social enterprise. There's lots of buzz these days about business ventures for social good.
