Behavioral Communications and Ethical Conflicts of Interest
| Faculty: | Tim Davis, Marc Garfinkle, Amy Jensen, Matthew Weiss |
| Production Date: | June 1 2011 |
Description
Part 1 - Behavioral Communications for Attorneys
If the law was decided just on its merits, then we would be able to take the blindfold off Lady Justice. Instead, many non-legal factors affect a case’s outcome and mastering behavioral communications gives attorneys an advantage over their opponents. Join business coach Tim Davis and attorney Matthew Weiss as they share real world legal situations in order to demonstrate the importance of catering communications styles to a particular audience from clients to judges. The presenters will teach you how to properly interpret body language, use your Socratic Method training, and make successful arguments. This entertaining course will help prepare you for your next client meeting, negotiation, deposition or oral argument.
Part 2 - Ethical Conflicts of Interest
Join former chair of the New Jersey Supreme Court Attorney Ethics Committee Marc Garfinkle as he discusses some of the more difficult to understand ethical quandaries attorneys face regarding conflicts of interest. Garfinkle uses four real world scenarios to share his insights on how to address potential ethical issues and avoid an ethics committee investigation. In this course, you will learn how to avoid a conflict of interest when representing multiple clients, how to ethically deal with a client’s confidences and what do when multiple clients’ interests overlap or conflict.
AGENDA
I. Behavioral Communication Skills
II. Ethically Influencing Others
III. Socratic Questioning
