Description
Who says ethics can’t be fun? In this program, attorney Jennifer Ellis explores some infamous occasions during which individuals have found themselves in ethical trouble for behavior that ended up online, and explains what can happen in sticky situations such as when judges and attorneys become Facebook friends. Through her examination of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, Ms. Ellis explains when acting foolish online through social media and blog posts can subject attorneys to violations of the Rules regarding: statements about judges; candor towards the tribunal; client confidences; ex parte communications; false statements about disciplinary hearings; and advertising. She also discusses the potentially negative results of attempting to use take down notices to force others to remove copyrighted or negative items posted about attorneys, firms and their clients. The program concludes with addressing the beneficial impacts of an online presence, specifically how social media and online advertising can be used to an attorney's advantage. Practitioners in all legal fields will find this course extremely helpful as it teaches them how to always act ethically on the Internet whether it be for personal or professional usage.
