Description
What legal concerns should a company have when it makes political financial contributions? To what extent can a non-profit organization be involved in lobbying efforts before jeopardizing its IRS tax-exempt status? Attorney Jisha Dymond answers these important questions in her lobbying and campaign finance primer. Ms. Dymond visits the constitutional authority of lobbying and discusses the threshold activities required before lobbyists are obligated to make disclosures under both state and federal laws. She then explains how the Watergate scandal was the biggest catalyst for modern campaign reform and how the Buckley v. Valeo Supreme Court case established the constitutional standard for federal campaign finance laws. Concluding with a discussion on the controversy surrounding the Court's recent decision in Citizen v. United, this course is an excellent guide for attorneys who need to advise their clients on how to lobby and make campaign contributions within the confines of today's legislative and judicial updates.
